The practice of mindfulness can be assimilated to a process that – through the implementation of particular techniques of meditation – leads the individual to be aware of himself, of one's thoughts, of their feelings and reality, understood as here and now, that surrounds it.
With mindfulness it means achieving self-awareness and reality in the present moment and in a non-judgmental way.
Mindfulness is the act of keeping there’focused attention on the present experience and, every time you get distracted, bring it back to the present. It is the act of the mind that observes itself. Remaining distant from its contents (sensations and thoughts) and not merged with them. Mindfulness is an English word which means awareness. It is the English translation of the word ‘hours‘ which in pali language means ‘conscious attention‘.
The awareness it is that part of the subjective experience mentally represented at the moment. It is a regulatory capacity: allows you to manage attention efficiently, emotions and thoughts.This in turn causes a reduction in stress and anxiety, an improvement in mood and the ability to change some automatic ways of reacting.
Pay attention in a particular way: purposely, in the present moment and in a non-judgmental way.
A program that incorporates mindfulness in order to reduce stress through awareness, developed at the University of Massachusetts medical center over the years 1970 by Professor Jon Kabat-Zinn is the MBSR protocol – Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction which uses a combination of mindfulness meditation, body awareness and yoga to guide practitioners towards greater awareness. Today applied in the clinical field, working, educational.
Mindfulness is an articulated practice on meditation. How a garden requires careful care if we want to grow flowers and not see it overgrown with weeds, so awareness requires regular interventions. It is a training based on specific exercises that involve the body and attention whose aim is to cultivatehabit awareness to achieve a state of mind more prone to satisfaction and happiness.
